The Bard College Center for Indigenous Studies is excited to host veterans Christopher Annis (Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican) and Malia K. Du Mont in conversation on Thursday, November 12th at 5:30pm. Light refreshments will be served. We hope you can join us in celebrating and honoring Native veterans.
Chris Annis is a father, husband and member of the Stockbridge Munsee, Band of Mohicans. Chris spent 12 years in the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marines he deployed to Iraq (3) and Afghanistan. Chris held 5 Military Occupational Specialities (MOS) which included, Aviation Operations, Aerial Observer and Drill Instructor to name a few. Chris’s time in the Marines was cut short as he was medically retired due to Sudden Cardiac Death. This was a big setback and spring forward, yet difficult to navigate. Upon waking up in the hospital everything he once knew began to change. These changes included letting go of the things he once loved and thought he knew, while bringing him back to his roots. Chris has dedicated his life to focusing on understanding life from a broader perspective. He now lives to travel, to challenge himself, to see, to experience and most importantly to learn from people, places and things.
Malia K. Du Mont is a senior executive and national security professional currently serving as Chief of Staff and Vice President for Strategy and Policy at Bard College. Previously, she was Co-President of Amur Equipment Finance, and was affiliated with the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center on Strategy and Security as a non-resident fellow and a member of the Strategy Consortium co-chaired by Michèle Flourney and Steve Hadley. She has spent the majority of her career in the Pentagon, where she held multiple civilian and military positions, including Director of Strategy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). In that role, she managed implementation of the National Defense Strategy, represented OSD on two National Security Staff subcommittees, and oversaw OSD’s strategic futures work with regard to analyzing future security environments. Malia helped spearhead the Obama Administration’s Afghanistan Strategy Review, serving as Special Assistant for Afghanistan/Pakistan Affairs in OSD and on the Joint Staff, following two years in Kabul and at NATO where she focused on analyzing Afghan politico-military affairs.
This event is open to the Bard community. Please email [email protected] for the location and more information.
